But AK's have the reputation of running no matter what, and AR's have the reputation of needing to be clean to run dependably. Won't that be the same with the 7.62x39 round? It's the platform, not the caliber.
Just talking about the fact that the 7.62x39 shot from an AR platform design is more accurate due to the tighter tolerances of the AR. I prefer the size of the 30 caliber bullet, so being able to use it in an AR15 is perfect for me. Mine will never see combat, and I'm not going to drag it behind my car nor toss it in a muddy pond for a video, and it's very accurate and, knock on aluminum, I have had zero failures. Yes, in a 'harsh environment' test, the AK will most likely outshine the AR in reliability. It just really doesn't matter to me. LOL.
If I were ever forced to use one for defense, I guess which ever came out of the safe first would be my choice.
I see you are in Raleigh. I just drove there last night to pick up my wife from the airport (very long story). I live in Greensboro. Funny that the currently active posters on the forum are both from NC!
