7.62X39
« on: February 13, 2018, 12:55:22 AM »
Would like to see a Diamondback AR chambered in 7.62X39. Just to add another DB carbine to my collection. Anyone else agree?

I built one and it's awesome. 6 lbs of 100% badass. I'd love to see DB offer one.   :main_thumbs_2up:

I just recently sold my SKS to my brother-in-law.  I'd love to get a DB as a replacement.

And isn't it amazing how accurate the 7.62x39 can be when built into the AR15 platform!  :main_thumbs_2up:

But AK's have the reputation of running no matter what, and AR's have the reputation of needing to be clean to run dependably.  Won't that be the same with the 7.62x39 round?  It's the platform, not the caliber.

Just talking about the fact that the 7.62x39 shot from an AR platform design is more accurate due to the tighter tolerances of the AR. I prefer the size of the 30 caliber bullet, so being able to use it in an AR15 is perfect for me. Mine will never see combat, and I'm not going to drag it behind my car nor toss it in a muddy pond for a video, and it's very accurate and, knock on aluminum, I have had zero failures. Yes, in a 'harsh environment' test, the AK will most likely outshine the AR in reliability. It just really doesn't matter to me. LOL.  :main_lol:

Makes sense, and I agree.  I will likely never be in a rough combat situation.  I hope I never am.

I first owned an SKS and so I do like the 7.62x39 round.  Now using the AR I find I'm more accurate with it. I can see a use for both calibers.  The videos I've been watching seem to show about the same energy down range.  One has more velocity and the other more mass, but they end up in the same ball park for total energy with the 7.62 a little higher I think.  I can see reasons each one would have an advantage in certain situations.  I like carrying and shooting the 5.56 better, but the 7.62 delivers a more convincing finish.

If I'm shooting paper I'll take the 5.56.  If I were to shoot steel I like the 7.62.  If I were ever forced to use one for defense, I guess which ever came out of the safe first would be my choice.

I see you are in Raleigh.  I just drove there last night to pick up my wife from the airport (very long story).  I live in Greensboro.  Funny that the currently active posters on the forum are both from NC!  :main_wave5:

Definitely my next purchase. Need to add to my current DB collection 556 and 7.52 AR rifles and 9mm AR pistol.

For 9mm in a rifle, I picked up one of the new Rugar PC9's.  It's a great gun this side of 100 yards.
