Polish Barrel??
« on: June 11, 2019, 02:35:28 PM »
I just picked up a DB9 Gen4. Is there any reason not to polish the barrel to make it look a little better? I get that the matte finishes are preferred in carry guns so they don't stand out, there just doesn't seem to be that much exposed here.

I would think that it's better to "Polish" your barrel than to "French" it!

IT WAS A JOKE

"Polish"  = "from Poland"
"polish"  = "make shiny or smooth"
"French" = "from France"
"french"  = "to round off or recess"

It actually may help with reliability to polish it up a bit. My db9 gen4 has shiny areas where the barrel hood is contacting the slide and has polished its self. I used jewlers ruge on my 2 keltec p3at pistols to polish the barrels. It may not have helped much but it sure didnt hurt.

I asked Diamondback if it would impact pistol operation, this is what they came back with:

"The sides, no. The step on the top will affect the barrel lock up if polished too much. "

Went light it a buffing wheel and some compound. Does make the pistol look a little more finished and hopefully run a little smoother.

It looks very nice. I may have to go out to the shop and do mine now.

Polished mine with a dremel and flitz. Looks nice now. Couldn’t stand that unfinished look. Was polishing the feed ramp, got carried away and polished the whole thing. Does not affect cycling and is easier to clean.
